Description

When transportation and light touring is your priority, the Projekt Custom Urban is your best bet. Its design and craftsmanship are inspired by the vintage bikes back in the early 1900s. The retro-inspired architecture of its frame and components don’t only make this bike look spectacular but also add great performance.

The Double Density Filled Saddle provides the right amount of comfort by increasing the pedaling-space which allows a highly efficient bike trip. The high-end aluminum on the frame, fork, handlebar, seat post, stem and fenders make this bike light enough to travel longer distances. It includes a Shimano 8-speed group that will become your best ally to conquer any intimidating hill that dares to show up in your way. The combination of fast-rolling wheels, GMD sport city tires and ergonomic handlebars conceive an extremely addictive riding experience.

The bike is very light and it works great but the best part is that it looks exactly the way I wanted. 5 stars for these guys.

Their bikes are beautiful and extremely light but the best part is their customer service. I wanted to switch the color of the fenders. They were very flexible and helpful.

The bike shop in San Diego at Morena Blvd is very cool, I was on my way to Costco and stopped by just to check it out. I immediately fell in love with the concept. I customized my bike in 10 minutes. They had my new bike assembled and ready for pickup before I was done with my Costco shopping list. You guys are doing a great job.

I highly recommend this company. Not only for their products but for their customer service. My bicycle arrived 3 days after I paid for it. I couldn’t believe that I fully customized a bike and it arrived so soon. I am in Chicago and they are in San Diego, I was expecting it at least a week later. My reason for giving them 4 stars was that they forgot to include a cup holder that I had also purchased. They sent it right away after I called.

Sleek design, very comfortable. Quick delivery and exceptional customer service. I wish they had special pricing for people that get 2 bikes.

I just purchased a my new bike here. I wanted to speak to two points about the company. 1. Level of customization and 2. Customer service. I haven’t received the bike yet, but I’ll post an update when I do and after my local bike repair shop has put the finishing touches on it (I’m not mechanical, though they have videos so you can do this yourself). The company is based in California.

    1. I really don’t care that much about colors and such. I care about function. I’m an urban commuter. They worked hard to make sure that the bike I ordered was exactly what I wanted, including substituting the men’s lower-rise handlebars for the women’s higher rise ones. This is a not a big box place.

    2. Related to the above, these folks have patiently answered every question I’ve had (and there have been many, since I was a bit nervous about buying a bike online). My old commuter mountain bike was stolen, and I wasn’t sure how the 8 gears compared to my old 21. I wanted a fender to protect my clothes, but those can’t be put on a bike with front gearing, so I was curious about an 8 geared bike. I also wanted to know more about the weight, the racks, the rims, etc.

Here’s some of the extra info I got beyond the specs:

Weight – Our Urban 8-Speed bike is 18.2 lbs.

8-gears as compared to mountain bike gearing – The 8-gear configuration is a new trend on city bikes. The rear cog is a little bit extended both ways (to the lower ratio and to the higher ratio). By doing this you would have 1 or 2 gears of your first and last cog and the ones in the middle would be like the ones in the middle cog of your 21 gear mountain bike. As you said it, it is very similar as having the middle cog. Imagine having the middle cog of you old mountain bike with 1 or 2 extra gears on the low side and 1 or 2 extra on the high side. The secret is that the jumps between gears are a little larger than on your older bike, which allows you to get a very wide range of possibilities without the hassel of having a front derailleur.

Wheels – They are double wall rims and there will not be a problem with the railroad tracks. They are pretty heavy duty. I would just recommend to keep them always at around 75-80 PSI. Well inflated tires will double protect your rims.

Rear Racks – The only difference is the look. The style B has a more elaborated style and more bars which could have more attachment points in case you want to use a bungee cord. Yes, either one of them would work great for your panniers.
